As a mother of a daughter with natural African hair, I completely agree! It was a huge struggle for me to learn to care for her hair, with my growing up with just playing with European hair like mine. Thankfully I have many people who have helped me along the way and YouTube guides, but nothing is quite the same as hands on learning. This post was written after about 4 hours of detangling and undoing her twist-outs … before hours of cornrows and crochet braids tomorrow. :)

The good news is that if a parent or guardian is motivated there is plenty of resources available online which would not have been true in the past.
